Scott's Sweaters — About Us
Comfort - Warmth - Style - Quality
Where Every Stitch Tells a Story
Some businesses are born from spreadsheets and market research. Scott's Sweaters was born from a single cardigan.
A Child of New England Winters
|
Scott Fraser grew up in New Hampshire during the 1960s, where the cool, crisp New England air made a great sweater more than a fashion choice — it was a way of life. Back then, shaggy mohair pullovers for men and ultra-soft angora cardigans for women were everyday wardrobe staples, beloved for the remarkable warmth these lightweight fibers provided without the bulk. They were comfortable, they were classic, and they made a quiet but unmistakable statement about the person wearing them. That sensory memory — the feeling of wrapping yourself in comfort, warmth, style and quality — never left Scott. |

The Gap Nobody Was Filling
By the time the 1990s rolled around, something had quietly disappeared from store shelves. The rise of machine-washable synthetic fiber sweaters had swept through the market, and convenience had won out over craftsmanship. Easy-care knits were everywhere. Quality mohair and angora sweaters, the kind Scott had grown up with, were nearly impossible to find. The stores had moved on, but the longing hadn't.
Scott noticed the gap. And then, almost by accident, he decided to do something about it.
The Sweater That Started It All
| It began with a visit to a neighbor's knitting supply shop. The store owner, clearly sharing Scott's passion for fine fibers, introduced him to a wonderfully soft mohair and alpaca yarn blend — and, as it turned out, to a circle of skilled local knitters who were eager to put their talents to work for someone who would truly appreciate their craft.
Scott commissioned his first custom sweater: an ivory cardigan with bold cables running up the sleeves and wrapping elegantly around the neckline. When he held it in his hands for the first time, he knew it was something special. When he wore it out into the world, everyone else seemed to agree. Wherever Scott went in that cardigan, the reaction was the same. Strangers would stop him. Friends would pull him aside. The question was always the same: "Where can I get one of those sweaters?" |

"We're Going to Need a Lot More of These"
Returning to the yarn store a month later, Scott told the store owner: "We're going to need a lot more of these cardigans."
That was 1993 — and Scott's Sweaters was born, from a concept of mixing traditionally retro vibes with modern flare.
Then & Now
What started as a single ivory cardigan crafted in a small rural New Hampshire town has grown into a global business Scott could only have dreamed of in those early days. Today, Scott operates a 1,500-square-foot design studio, showroom, and warehouse just outside of Denver, Colorado, where his team brings each new design to life before shipping it to customers around the world — every single day.
The synthetic fibers and easy-care convenience of the modern era are still out there, of course. But so is Scott's Sweaters — proof that when something is made with the right materials, the right hands, and genuine love for the craft, people will always find their way to it.
Just like they always stopped Scott on the street to ask about that cardigan.
